[REVIEW] NYX Matte Lipstick – Sierra

Here’s one of the brown kindda lipstick color of mine. It comes from one of the drugstore brand: NYX. Although it’s stated as matte lipstick, but definitely the formula isn’t. So, let’s read what’s my take to this NYX Matte Lipstick in Sierra.

Since I am the one who is a lipstick addict, I own many lipsticks in my make up stash. This NYX Matte Lipstick in Sierra is one of my favorite on daily basis. I like the color, I like the formula, and I like how it makes my lips look a bit plump and full without making it like I had my lips job.

~ PRODUCT INFO ~

NYX Matte Lipsticks are highly pigmented, richly formulated and long-wearing. The formula glides on smoothly and stays put with a non-drying matte finish.

~ PACKAGING ~

NYX Matte Lipstick comes with a matte plastick case with a transparent “window” in the middle of the tube so we’re able to see the color bullet inside. It doesn’t look real cheap like we know about NYX Round Lipstick which looks a bit fragile. The size definitely is bigger than NYX Round Lipstick but since I don’t have any of it right now, so I can’t compare the size side-by-side between NYX Matte Lipstick and NYX Round Lipstick.

The case is pretty much standard with the way of pulling up the cap to open and swirl the body to use the bullet. On the body, there’s a word “NYX” and “Matte Lipstick” on the cap. On the bottom of the body, there’s a sticker which shows us the color name.

Bees Wax, Copernicia Cerifera (Carnauba) wax, Euphorbia Cerifera (Candelilla)wax, Ceresin, Microcrystalline Wax, Polyethylene, Octyldodeanol, Polyisobutene, Ethylhexyl Palmitate, Oleyl Alcohol, Isopropyl Palmitate, Isostearyl Isostearate, Bis-Digylceryl Polyacyladipade-2, Tocopheryl Acetate, B.H.A, and Fragrance. MAY CONTAIN: Mica (CI 77019), Titanium Dioxide (CI 77891), Iron Oxide Red (CI 77491), Iron Oxide Yellow (CI 77492), Iron Oxide Black (CI 77499), D&C Red No.6 (CI 15850), D&C Red No.7 (CI 15850), D&C Red No.27 Aluminum Lake (CI 45410), FD&C Yellow No.5 Aluminum Lake (CI 19140), FD&C Blue No.1 Aluminum Lake (CI 42090), or D&C Red No.36 (CI 12085). For those who concerns, it definitely is not animal cruelty free since it still contains beeswax.

~ TEXTURE and COLOR ~

I believe I’m not mistaken in reading since the word “Matte Lipstick” is written on the cap. But, in fact, when I tried it on my lips, it was definitely not a matte lipstick at all, which was pretty much funny for me. I found that it gave a little bit of gloss but was not really seen until it’s considered as a gloss. The texture on my lips was some kind of buttery and glided on smoothly. The pigmentation is also great. I just needed a single swipe to perfectly cover my entire lips. It is good to cover my lips’ pigmentation ring. I think what it claims is true: a non-drying matte finish.

The color Sierra, I believe it’s brown with orange undertone. Though, the definition in NYX Official Web is bronze with pink undertone. You can see that the color on the web differs from reality. Anyhoo.. It's perfect for daily use and doesn’t make my face dull because it is so hard to find a brown-like color to suit my skintone. Can I say this lipstick is somewhat classified in nude color? Well, it could be, depends on your skin tone. Maybe, if you have deeper color. Though I’m not sure.

~ PRICE AND AVAILABILITY ~

You can see from NYX Official Website the price is US$ 6. If you buy from any online shop which gives a hand carry service from its origin country, the price will be around Rp80,000 - Rp90,000 (approx. the same price as in the web).

The availability of this product can be found as long as you can find its official retail booths in many major malls in certain big cities. Of course the price will be different, since the official retail booths sell it for Rp100,000 (approx. around US$10).

~ MY VERDICT ~

Well, though I found it very funny considering the product was named after a Matte Lipstick and the reality was really at the opposite of the name, I was pretty much satisfied by the result that it moisturized as I apply the lipstick. When I wear it, it looks a little bit glossy and apparently, although it seems like a creamy lipstick, this Sierra color has fine glitters which is invisible in real life. I also like the color, it's very very opaque and perfectly cover my lips' pigmentation ring. I think I'm gonna repurchase for another color because right now I'm eyeing for Alabama, Strawberry Daiquiri, Euro Trash and Whipped Caviar.
